- Alan Harrison's career included being an Admissions Tutor and Lecturer in Gastronomy at Surrey University, Director of the Edinburgh Hotel School at Crewe Toll, an Open University Tutor/Examiner within the Post-Grad course in Educational Management, and Head of Faculty of Community Studies at Canterbury Technical College.
- He was also a University Dean in France. Other foreign activities saw Alan Harrison as a tourism specialist and academic adviser in a dozen countries.
- His six year stay in Scotland included the acquisition of an Edinburgh Master of Education degree.
- His books include Gastronomy 1982 and Are We Really What We Eat? 1986.
